Q:
My vagina seems redish/brown, is this a sign of yeast infection?

A:
The new onset of reddened vaginal tissue would suggest inflammation from some source. It could be a sign of a vaginal yeast infection, especially if there is also itching and/or a white cheesy discharge. Other vaginal infections can also do this, such as trichomoniasis (which usually also causes burning and a bad smell) or bacterial vaginitis (which may give a fishy odor.) If you are having sex, then sexually transmitted infections have to be considered.

Many other things can cause redness and inflammation: friction from tight underwear; rubbing from bicycles, saddles or vigorous sex; chemical sensitivity to soaps, detergents, perfumes or body oils; allergies to latex (condoms); excessive moisture from exercise or sweating; poor hygiene - it’s a long list. We recommend you make an appointment with your doctor to get this checked out.
