Q:
I'm 16 and about a year ago I’ve been having more painful cramps than normal. I also have shooting pains during and after my period. Should I be worried?

A:
We don’t think you should necessarily be worried, since many women do get bad cramps. However, since you say that your cramps are much worse than they used to be, and you are also having stabbing pains, we recommend that you see your doctor. (We assume the pains are in your lower abdomen.)

It’s possible that you have an ovarian cyst or another condition that could be causing the changes you describe. If you are sexually active, it’s very important to get checked for possible infection.

You're not alone. Take a look at a few of the quetions related to this topic that other teens have asked us.
