From what you say, we assume you have seen a medical professional or sports medicine trainer and have received a diagnosis of "tennis elbow." "Tennis elbow" refers to lateral epicondylitis (which is inflammation or pain on the lateral side – the side farthest away from the body - of the elbow.) This is an overuse or misuse injury. It may be related to improper tennis technique, especially poor backhand technique, or it may be related to the equipment, such as a racquet that is too heavy or too tightly strung or an incorrect grip size. Once an injury such as this occurs, it’s important to start an aggressive non-surgical rehabilitation program. PRICEMM is an acronym that can be used to remember the methods involved: Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation, Medicine (such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and other Modalities such as transcutaneous electrical stimulus, ultrasound and some times a counterbrace.
If you have not done so, you may want to consult a Certified Sports Trainer or a sports physical therapist. Don’t ignore the pain and don’t continue to play with pain. You can cause more damage and end up needing surgery to correct the problem.
