Q:
I know it’s normal for your breasts to be two different sizes, however, is something wrong if one is a size C and the other hasn’t developed?

A:
Most all women hope for attractive breasts, and we can certainly appreciate your concern if there is that much difference between the sizes of your breasts. We don’t know your age or when your breasts first started developing, so it’s difficult to answer your question. It is very normal for one side to develop before the other, even as much as a year sooner. About 25 percent of women will still have asymmetry (different sized breasts) even when growth is completed. However, if you truly have no development at all on one side, not even a tender little breast bud, then something may be wrong. Rarely there can be a congenital absence of breast tissue on one side. Or if the early breast bud was biopsied (removed) because of concern about tumor growth, then no further development can occur. The best thing to do is make an appointment with your doctor for a check-up and have your breast growth evaluated.
