Weight lifting works best if there is a lot of male hormone around. It's called testosterone and is made by the testicles. Testosterone does many important things. It helps build muscles, makes your penis and pubic hair grow, as well as underarm and face hair grow, and makes sweat smell different. That's when most guys need to start using deodorant. It also increases your interest in sex. Testosterone levels don't increase a whole lot until the middle of puberty (ages 14 for most guys). Until the levels get high enough, weight lifting won't help make the kind of muscles it sounds like you want. So unless you started puberty very early (like age 8 or 9) and have a lot of hair around your penis and under your arms, it's too soon to expect much from weight lifting. Why not do other kinds of exercise that will help build a healthy heart and lungs and keep you fit? This kind of exercise is called aerobic exercise - the kind that makes you sweat and breathe hard like basket ball, running, swimming or soccer. That way you will be in the best possible shape to take advantage of puberty.
