Osgood-Schlatter: A Common Cause of Knee Pain
A Reason for Calcium
I developed shin splints from dance. I've been dancing for nine years and it just started last year. I've heard that you should stop the activity for a few weeks. Is this true? I have a competition coming up and can't miss practice.
At what age does your head stop growing? Is it when you are a child, a teenager or adult?
I would like to know when your face stops growing? I have a long face and my chin sticks out. I am now 13 and look like I’m like16. I’m 5'7. Do you think my chin will get bigger? It really bothers me. It wasn’t always like this when I was younger.
Why am I being diagnosed with Osgood-Schlatter disease, when I never play any sports? Does this mean I'm going through a growth spurt?
I crack my neck often. Will cracking your neck quite a bit cause medical problems?
I am 15 years old and my bones crack every time I move them. My knees and ankles are starting to swell, and I’m getting pain in my knees and ankles. What should I do?
When I started puberty (at 12 years old) the muscle on the arches of both of my feet would always hurt after any sport, even if it was just walking. I have tried everything: getting new shoes, icing my feet, soaking my feet and using Mineral Ice. However, the pain always seems to come back. Does size have anything to do with it, because I am an 11 (mens)? Are my feet just weird?
I have a lump on the left of my jaw. It is on the outside of the jaw not toward the inside. When I mess with it, it seems to get bigger and becomes tender. You cannot feel it through the inside of my cheek unless you push it up from the outside. You can feel it very well from the outside. I have chewed tobacco for a couple of years. Should I be worried?
If you tear your ACL before your growth plates are together can you have surgery?
My hips have been hurting me a lot. The pain occurs after skateboarding or running, but even on days I do nothing it comes in the afternoon. I went to the doctor and he said it has to do with the gap between my growth plate and the pelvis bone. I don't remember the name he gave this, could you tell me the name and more about it? He did give me exercises to help increase the muscle mass.
My doctor said I have water in my knees. What should I do?
Where are your growth plates? How do you tell if they're still open? My mom's 5'10 and my dad's 5'8 and I'm pushing 5'6. I haven’t really had a growth spurt at all during puberty. I’m 17. My doctor says that females growth plates don’t completely close until they’re 21. I just want to know if there is still hope for me to grow anymore.
I'm 16 and have been on the depo shot for two years. I got on it after I started my period at age 14. Now I hear that I might have to worry about my bones getting weak. Should I worry? Should I get off this shot?

My jaw clicks and hurts when I chew. Could it be TMJ? How is TMJ treated? Is it dangerous?
I am an 18-year-old female and I have a boyish figure. I've noticed that many girls my age and younger have hips, but I don't. Are hips genetically predetermined? When do they start/stop growing? Is there anything that I can do to increase my hip size?
I am 17. A recent bone scan revealed that 99.6% of my growth had occurred. I am 5'5”. Is there any way my adult height could be 5'8? Is there anyway to stop my growth plates from closing?
Does lifting weights help your bones grow stronger? How about thicker? My wrists seem skinny for a 16-year-old male. Is there anything I can do about it?
I am a 15-year-old female. I have a problem with my knees. When I run (and sometimes when I walk) they tend to hurt, and most of the time they bruise. I've been to my pediatrician about it, and he hasn't found anything wrong. He wants me to go to a knee doctor to see if they can find out what's going on. My parents don't want me to go unless it's so serious that I can't walk. Should I be concerned about my knees?
I'm 17 years old and am lactose intolerant. I’ve tried the Lactaid Milk and Lactaid Drops. Are there any other ways to get calcium besides Lactaid milks?
My toes are weird. All my toes (except the big toe) are bent down. Is this normal?
My feet are ugly. I have bunions and they make my feet look deformed. People make fun of them and I am very self-conscious about it. What can I do to help it? We don’t have enough money for surgery.
I went to the doctor and he told me that I have a chipped bone in my big toe. It hurts sometimes when I put pressure on it in certain ways, but it doesn't hurt when I walk. What can be done to help or will it go way on its own?
Is it true that if you keep punching a wall or other flat, hard object, it will make your knuckles stronger?
I'm a 15-year-old girl with a birth deficiency – one of my legs is about 2.5 inches longer than the other. I heard about a surgery to lengthen my shorter leg. There seems to be two different methods to doing this – Ilizarov and the internal fixator. Can you give me more information about these procedures?
My orthopedist says I have patella-femoral chondromalacia with a J-cut (my dad also has a J cut). He sent me home with different exercises to do for the next two months. He said if the pain in my knees wasn’t better in two months he would do arthroscopic surgery. I have done the exercises for a month and I have felt no change. Will I be able to play sports next year? Will it get better without surgery or is that impossible? Could it be hereditary? I am a 14-year-old female.
I am 15 and had reconstructive knee surgery a year and a half ago. They reconstructed my ACL among other things. Why does my knee continue to click several times a day?
I am 16 year old girl and am 4’8". I had an accident four years ago in which the joint of the upper thigh slipped. The doctors operated and inserted temporary screws. What is the formula to predict the future height of teenage boys and girls? I seem to remember something with the ratio of arm span to current height.
I have mild scoliosis. When my spine is straightened out will I gain any height at all? I’m a 16-year-old male.
I’m 16, began my periods five months ago and have been diagnosed with scoliosis. One doctor says my thoracic curve is 35 degrees and lumbar is 42 degrees. Another doctor said my thoracic curve is 42 degrees and the lumbar is 49 degrees and says I need surgery right away. How can there be such a difference using the same x-ray? The last doctor recommends surgery, but other doctors say I don't need it. I hope to pursue dancing and singing as a career. But I don't want to have major complications later in life. How do my parents and I know who to listen to when the doctors don't agree? Does chiropractic care have any hope for me?
I have been lifting weights for about two years and my chest is still dipped in like an upside down “v.” What am I doing wrong or what can I do to help this problem?
Which growth plates affect your height, meaning in which area of the body? If you damage a growth plate in your arm, does that mean that growth plates in your legs won't allow your legs to grow?
I was just told I have mild scoliosis. I don't want to wear an ugly brace under my cool clothes and I don't want to have the same surgery my grandmother had. What happens if I do nothing?
I'm a 14-year-old boy. The bottom of my left foot has been hurting for a few days. I read about bone spurs and it feels like the description of it. I haven't been physically active for a couple months. Do you think this is a bone spur and is it serious?

I have stopped drinking milk. I am also very active in sports and have broken my arm three times in different locations. Are there any bad side effects for not drinking milk? How much calcium do I need so I won't break any more bones?
I sprained my ankle in basketball in December of 1999. It was really bad and I couldn't walk on it for over a week then I started using crutches. The bruse went half way up my calf. I took about a month off of basketball before praticing again and playing. I was wearing a brace all the time for walking and playing basketball, but I fell on it again about two months later, it didn't get sprained again, but the swelling has never gone completely down since I injured it in December which was over 2 months ago. Basketball is now over and I want to start track but I am wondering if that would be a good idea. It still hurts a lot some times. I have had a lot of people look at it like nurses that live by me but I have never seen a doctor really. I did all that stuff like keeping it elevated and having the ice and compression on it. I had a lot of rest, but it still isn't completely back to normal. I don't know what I should do.
What are the pros and cons of growth hormone therapy?
