Knee Pain Can Plague Fragile Bones
I have to use tampons because I am on a swim team, but it hurts a lot. My mom and I have followed the directions but it hurts because I’m always tense and have never had sexual activity. My coach told me I’m not supposed to feel it, but I can and it really hurts. It hurts even more when I take it out. I know I’m doing the directions correctly, because I have tried many times. What else can I do?
If you tear your ACL before your growth plates are together can you have surgery?
I get cramps when I’m running. Sometimes they are so bad that it hurts to breathe. What causes these cramps and what can I do?
Sometimes when I run I get very dizzy, but I don't pass out. Then there are other times when I’m just walking and all of a sudden, I get very dizzy. I don't have any significant medical problems. Is there something wrong?
I have been told from a doctor that I have calcium deposits in my shoulder. What are calcium deposits?
I am a 15-year-old female. I have a problem with my knees. When I run (and sometimes when I walk) they tend to hurt, and most of the time they bruise. I've been to my pediatrician about it, and he hasn't found anything wrong. He wants me to go to a knee doctor to see if they can find out what's going on. My parents don't want me to go unless it's so serious that I can't walk. Should I be concerned about my knees?
During a physical for track, I was told that I have a grade 2 systolic heart murmur. I've never been told this and now the doctor won't let me race until I see a cardiologist. I was wondering if this would affect my ability to race? How worried I should be about this murmur?
I am a 14-year-old girl and I think I have sciatica. Sometimes pain in my hamstring is so bad I sob. I've had an MRI and CT scan, and both showed nothing. How can I fix this?
In football I was knocked around a lot, but I still like to play. I had what my coaches thought was a concussion, and they sat me out. Then that next week I played again and it felt like I got another concussion, but I continued to play. After this however, I had headaches. Now, two months after football, I feel fine. What are the chances of getting another concussion?
I keep having pains in my chest. When they occur I can hardly breathe. I’ve had them all my life but in the last two years they have been increasing in pain and the number of occurrences. Could you tell me what it might be, the seriousness of it, and if I should go see a doctor?
Is creatine bad for you?
I’m a 15-year-old female and am very active in sports. A month ago, I sprained my finger. It is still swollen and I cannot lift most objects. How long does it take to heal and what is the difference between a severe sprain and a “regular” sprain?
My orthopedist says I have patella-femoral chondromalacia with a J-cut (my dad also has a J cut). He sent me home with different exercises to do for the next two months. He said if the pain in my knees wasn’t better in two months he would do arthroscopic surgery. I have done the exercises for a month and I have felt no change. Will I be able to play sports next year? Will it get better without surgery or is that impossible? Could it be hereditary? I am a 14-year-old female.
I play tennis and over the course of the years, I have developed sprains in both my ankles. When I sprained them they swelled up, but after a year, after I thought they had healed, they’re still larger than usual. Why is this? Is there anything I can do to make them normal size again?
I am a 16-year-old guy and the school nurse said I have moderate sway back. Is this something to be concerned about and could it be causing the muscle pain I feel on the right side of my mid-back when I play hockey?
How important is it to wear a cup and jock when playing football?
I play volleyball, basketball and softball. My knee hurts a lot after I get done playing any one of those sports. Sometimes my knee feels "locked-up." It sometimes feel like water on my knee, but I'm not sure. What is it? I have not had any other knee injuries.
If you take steroids and you're not working out will it still impact your body?
I am a 13 year old male, and I am 5'6". When will I stop growing? Also will weight lifting stop me from growing?
I am 13-year-old boy and am very active. In the last three months, I have grown five inches. My doctor said I have Osgood-Schlatter disease. What is this?
What effect does human hormone have on a teens emotional state?
I sprained my ankle in basketball in December of 1999. It was really bad and I couldn't walk on it for over a week then I started using crutches. The bruse went half way up my calf. I took about a month off of basketball before praticing again and playing. I was wearing a brace all the time for walking and playing basketball, but I fell on it again about two months later, it didn't get sprained again, but the swelling has never gone completely down since I injured it in December which was over 2 months ago. Basketball is now over and I want to start track but I am wondering if that would be a good idea. It still hurts a lot some times. I have had a lot of people look at it like nurses that live by me but I have never seen a doctor really. I did all that stuff like keeping it elevated and having the ice and compression on it. I had a lot of rest, but it still isn't completely back to normal. I don't know what I should do.
My coach won't let us drink liquids during football practice, even when it's really hot. Sometimes our stomachs feel upset and we feel awful. Can I take anything to help?
I recently started running cross country and now have a dull aching pain on the lower front part of my shin bone. My running coach says I have shin splints. What are shin splints?
